Derry Hotels
County Derry is situated in Northern Ireland in the northwest of Ireland. Its main city is Derry or Londonderry, which dates back to the 6th century and is alive with history and culture. It is also one of the only fully walled cities in Ireland.
The county is very close to County Donegal in the Republic of Ireland and shares a dramatic landscape and coastline with its neighbour. In addition to spectacular views over the Atlantic Ocean, Derry also has the dramatic Sperrin Mountain range, the River Foyle and the Burntollet River and pretty seaside towns such as Portrush and Portstewart.
In Derry city there is the famous St. Columb’s Cathedral which can be seen from miles away and the Walls of Derry – which themselves can be explored, the Guildhall and the Tower Museum – which in addition to telling the Story of Derry, also includes information on “An Armada Shipwreck”. Outside of Derry city there is the Bellaghy Bawn Museum, which provides an insight into the history of the Ulster Plantation and also the writings of the famous Irish poet Seamus Heaney.
The Mussenden Temple which is owned and managed by the National Trust for Northern Ireland and forms part of the Downhill Estate & Mussenden Temple visitor attraction. It was built in the late 1780’s as a library and was based on the Temple of Vesta in Italy.
