Our family-run hotel is nestled in one of the most scenic & romantic glens in the south west of Ireland, at the source of the River Lee, overlooking Gougane Barra Lake and St. Finbarr's sixth century hermitage. A favourite place for visitors, this small intimate hotel is renowned for its fine food, comfort, relaxed atmosphere, warm welcome and splendid views of the lake, the glen and hills beyond.

Gougane Barra, lying in a Corrie type Valley between the Derrynasaggart and Shehy Mountain Ranges, is 1.25 Miles (2KM) on the L4643 from the main route (R584), which runs between the towns of Macroom (N22) and Bantry (N71) in the county of Cork.

Gougane Barra Lake (or Loch Irce as it was known in older times) is home to a large stock of native Brown Trout. Evidence of this large stock can be seen in the early hours of a summer's morning or late in the evening from the dining room of Gougane Barra Hotel as the trout rise to catch the fly. The fishing of the lake is managed by Gougane Barra Angling Club, which was set up in the early nineties. The aim of the Angling Club is promote fishing, especially to the youth, and organise competitions annually which will help to make angling a more popular sport.
