County Donegal is located at the northwest tip of the island of Ireland and is one of the Republics most northerly counties.

Donegal is one of Ireland’s most serene spots, with beautiful scenery and breathtaking views. Donegal’s coastline has a number of beaches, such as Rossnowlagh and Bundoran, which are popular for surfing and swimming. There are a number of Gealtacht or native Irish speaking areas in County Donegal, such as Tory Island, located off Horn Head, which is an area rich in ancient archaeological and monastic ruins. There are over 35 Donegal hotels and guesthouses where you can enjoy short hotel breaks or more extended stays. A lot of hotels in Donegal cater for families.

The famous Irish writer Brian Friel based his play “Dancing at Lughnasa” on Glenties, located in South Donegal.  Also in the south of the county is the well known Donegal Bay, which stretches from Bundoran to Glemcolmcille and past Donegal Town. This area also has one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe, the Slieve League Sea Cliffs.
