Dublin History

Dublin City was founded in 988 A.D., well over 1,000 years ago. One of the first people to habit the area were Norman Vikings, followed by the Danes and eventually the Anglo-Normans. The 17th century saw Dublin start to grow both economically and culturally. As one of the oldest cities in Europe, a stroll through the city will allow you to witness fine examples of the medieval, Georgian and modern architecture that defines the city and its people. As well as its architecture, Dublin is well known for its writers, artists and musicians, they include such well-known figures as James Joyce and Oscar Wilde.
