Meath Hotels
County Meath is located on the East coast of Ireland in an area known as the Midlands and is bordered by counties; Louth, Kildare, Dublin, Westmeath, Cavan and Offaly. It is also known as the Royal County as it was once the seat of the High Kings of Ireland and is an area rich in historical treasures. Meath is only an hour or so from Dublin City and Dublin Airport and the Dublin Ferry ports.
There are a large number of historical sites and monuments located throughout County Meath, not least of all in the Boyne Valley area, which is the site of the famous Battle of the Boyne. The battle took place in July 1690 between King William III and King Jame II, with the largest number of troops ever on an Irish battlefield.
The Boyne Valley also has three passage tombs, Knowth, Dowth and the world famous Newgrange, which together with over 30 other mounds, is known as Bru na Boinne. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and dates back to around 3,000 B.C., which means that Newgrange is older than Stonehenge in England. There is an excellent selection of Meath Hotels and Meath Guesthouses throughout the county.
