Sligo Hotels

County Sligo is located in the North West Region of Ireland, looking our over the Atlantic Ocean and bordered by counties Roscommon, Leitrim and Mayo. Sligo is well known for its woodlands, lakes, dramatic mountains – such as Ben Bulben and its long sandy beaches, such as Rosses Point, Strandhill and Enniscrone, which are popular with surfers.

County Sligo has strong artistic and literary associations, with the famous Irish writer W. B. Yeats associated with so many landmarks in the county and used the local landscape as an inspiration for much of his writings, such as the “Lake Isle of Innisfree”.

Although Yeats died and was buried in France, as requested he was re-interred “under bare Ben Bulben’s head” in Drumcliff churchyard in County Sligo. His brother the famous painter Jack B. Yeats frequently acknowledged how he never created a painting that did not at least have a thought of Sligo, “Sligo was my school, and the sky above it”.
