Perhaps one of the most famous landmarks in Ireland is the Rock of Cashel, which dominates the skyline in the area and with its well-preserved ecclesiastical remains was once the seat of the High Kings of Munster and is reputedly where St. Patrick converted Aenghus the King of Munster around the 5th century. At the foot of the Rock is Bru Boru, a cultural centre that celebrates Irish music, song and dance.

Other heritage sites in the county include Cahir Castle, originally built in the 13th century on the site of an earlier stone fort, is one of the best preserved castles in Ireland and is located on a rocky outcrop on the River Suir. Cahir also has a fine example of an early 19th century “cottage orne”, the Swiss Cottage.

Other historical and cultural attractions in County Tipperary include Cashel Folk Village, Thurles Famine Museum, Roscrea Heritage Centre, Fethard Folk Farm and Transport Museum, Tipperary Crystal Craft Factory, Ormond Castle – a fine example of an Elizabethan manor house built by the 10th Earl of Ormond in the 1560’s. Other attractions include the Dundrum Plantarum, Redwood Castle and Mitchelstown Cave, one of Europe’s most spectacular caves.

Activities to be enjoyed in County Tipperary include a day at the races at Tipperary or Clonmel Racecourses and the county is well known in the racing world as the home of the famous Coolmore Stud in Fethard, owned by John Magnier it is one of the largest breeding operations for thoroughbred horses.
