Locke’s Distillery Museum in Kilbeggan, is one of the oldest distillery’s in the world. Dun na Si Heritage centre in Moate, Lough Park House in Castlepollard , an 18th century Dower house and Glassan a pretty village near Athlone and the hometown of the writer Oliver Goldsmith, are also worth visiting.
There are plenty of walking routes to explore in the county, such as the Westmeath Way, which runs from Kilbeggan to Mullingar or Mullaghmeen a 1,000 acre forest with plenty of trails to explore or Kilpatrick Woods near Ballinafid and part of the old Lord Greville Estate has plenty of lakeside walks.
