Welcome to Galway

Welcome to Galway, the unofficial cultural capital of Ireland. Galway is the country’s fourth largest city but has still managed to retain much of its small town character and is home to many artists, writers and artisans. Visit the city’s hub, the 18th century Eyre Square which you will discover is a popular meeting spot surrounded by shops and traditional pubs that often offer live Irish folk music. Nearby, you can wander its cobble-stoned streets and feel yourself stepping back in time to Medieval Ireland as you pass through the winding lanes of the Latin Quarter, which retains portions of the ancient medieval city walls.

Galway city is also the gateway to Connemara and the Wild Atlantic Way. The wild and unique region of Connemara offers spectacular scenery of valleys, mountains, lakes and unparalleled hillwalking across the peaks of the Twelve Bens. The coast line is wrought into rocky inlets sheltering white sandy beaches and beautiful fishing villages such as Roundstone and is studded with the beautiful islands such as the Aran islands and Inishbofin that make for interesting day trips.
